It’s no mean feat listing all the things there are to do in Wales’ largest seaside resort. Just where do we begin? Fancy stretching your legs on the longest pier in Wales? A ride on Britain’s only cable hauled tramway? You can check out the views from Britain’s longest passenger cable car. Or head for the slopes and try sno-tubing. Just make sure you leave time for mooching ‘round the shops, exploring the Bronze Age copper mine and a night at the opera.
When your looking for somewhere to stay Llandudno exudes tradition but has its feet firmly planted in the present. Good old-fashioned seafront accommodation sits comfortably with the handful of new boutique hotels emerging here. Other new additions include an impressive retail development just a few steps from the main shopping area with the biggest high street names.
One of the best things about visiting the seaside is that nothing beats a bracing walk along the impressive esplanade, and on a windy day it’s an exhilarating way to clear the head and work up an appetite. Like any seaside town worth its salt, Llandudno offers the customary afternoon teas and trusty old fish and chips. But it’s bursting with global flavours too, from Italy to India, with a bounty of local delicacies.
If you’re stuck thinking of even more things to do try sand castle building, paddling, kite flying – whatever you go to the beach for, Llandudno has not one, but two blue flag beaches to choose from: North Shore (the one with the Pier) and West Shore (the one without). Sand between your toes. Trying to decipher the words in a stick of rock. The promise of ice cream before bed. What’s not to love about Llandudno?
If you’re looking to relax, but want to make sure everyone else is entertained once you’ve successfully mastered the workings of a deck chair, check out Professor Codman’s Punch and Judy – one of Britain’s longest-serving shows. Or take to the water on a sightseeing boat trip from the promenade jetty. Keep your eyes peeled for the Town Trail around the town’s historic bits you might otherwise miss.
